Causing miscarriage

Subject to the provisions of the Termination of Pregnancy Act 1974, whoever voluntarily causes a woman with child to miscarry, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 3 years, or with fine, or with both; and if the woman’s pregnancy is of more than 16 weeks’ duration as calculated in accordance with section 4 of that Act, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 7 years, and shall also be liable to fine. Explanation.— A woman who causes herself to miscarry is within the meaning of this section.
