Section 86

Obstructing engine or carriages or endangering safety of passengers

Any person who wilfully and maliciously puts, places, casts, or throws upon or across a railway any wood, stone, matter or thing, or takes up, removes or displaces any rail, sleeper, matter or thing belonging to a railway, or turns, moves or diverts any points or other machinery belonging to a railway, or makes, shows, hides or removes any signal or light upon or near a railway, or does or causes to be done, any act with intent in any of the cases aforesaid to upset, obstruct, overthrow, injure or destroy any engine, tender, carriage or truck used upon a railway, or to endanger the safety of any persons travelling or being upon the railway, or casts, throws or causes to fall or strike against, into or upon any engine, tender, carriage or truck used upon a railway any wood, stone or other matter or thing with intent to endanger the safety of any person being in or upon such engine, tender, carriage or truck, shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to caning, or to a fine not exceeding $1,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 20 years or to any 2 of these punishments.
