Section 33

Uncontested elections

(1)

If, on the day of nomination in any electoral division, after the decision by the Returning Officer on any objection which may have been lodged, only one candidate or a group of candidates stands nominated for that division, the Returning Officer must immediately —

(a)

declare the nominated candidate or the group of candidates to be elected; and

(b)

cause the name or names of the Member or Members so elected to be published in the Gazette.

(2)

Nothing in sections 29 and 30 prevents the Returning Officer from exercising any of his or her powers under subsection (1) before 12.30 p.m. if, at 12 noon on the day of nomination for an election in any electoral division, only one candidate or one group of candidates stands nominated for that electoral division.
