Employers to allow employees reasonable period for voting
(1)
Every employer must, on polling day, allow every elector who is an employee thereof a reasonable period for voting.
(1A)
An employer must not make any deduction from the pay or other remuneration of any such elector or impose upon or exact from the elector any penalty by reason of the absence of the elector during that period.
(2)
This section extends to the employees of the Railway except such as are actually engaged in the running of trains and to whom such time cannot be allowed without interfering with the manning of the trains; and the General Manager of Railways shall be deemed to be the employer of such employees.
(3)
Any employer who, directly or indirectly, refuses, or by intimidation, undue influence, or in any other manner, interferes with granting to any elector who is an employee thereof a reasonable period for voting shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $1,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or to both.
