Section 3

The President may appoint a Director of the National Library, who shall be responsible for the management and control of the various functions of the National Library and of the library buildings, properties and grounds in and from which those functions are carried on.

The President may also appoint such other officers as he may think fit for the purposes of this Act and any rules made thereunder.

All officers of the Raffles Library appointed for the purposes of the Raffles Societies Ordinance [1955 Ed., Cap. 312] shall on the commencement of this Act be deemed to be transferred to and be officers of the National Library for the purposes of this Act and the rules made thereunder.

The Director and all other officers appointed under this section shall be deemed to be public servants for the purposes of the Penal Code [Cap. 224].

The President may by notification in the Gazette authorise any officer appointed under this section to exercise within the library buildings and grounds all the powers of a police officer.
