Desertion
(1)
Any police officer who unlawfully or in breach of his engagement absents himself from duty under circumstances which show that he has the intention of not returning to his duty shall be deemed to have deserted, and shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months, and all arrears of pay due to him shall be forfeited.
(2)
Any police officer may arrest without warrant any person where there are reasonable grounds to believe that such person is guilty of an offence under subsection (1).
(3)
In subsection (1) “police officer” shall be deemed to include any member of the police force of Malaysia present in Singapore under the circumstances referred to in section 44.
