Obligation to afford free passage
(1)
When an order of removal is made under the provisions of this Act in respect of any person who has entered Singapore contrary to the provisions of this Act or the regulations, and the person was brought to Singapore in a vessel, an aircraft or a train, the master of the vessel, aircraft or train, and also the master of any vessel, aircraft or train belonging to the same owners or chartered by the same charterers, must, if required in writing by the Controller, receive the person on board his or her vessel, aircraft or train and afford the person free of charge a passage to the port or place at which the person embarked for Singapore or to any other port or place designated by the Controller and proper accommodation and maintenance during the voyage, flight or journey.
(2)
No master shall be liable under subsection (1) unless the order of removal has been made by the Controller within 12 months from the date on which the person entered Singapore.
(3)
A master of a vessel, an aircraft or a train who fails to comply with this section shall be guilty of an offence.
