Section 39

Production of driving licences

(1)

Any person driving a motor vehicle on a road must, on being so required by a police officer, produce his or her driving licence for examination so as to enable the police officer to ascertain his or her name and address, the date of issue and the authority by which it was issued, and if he or she fails to do so he or she shall be guilty of an offence.

(2)

Despite subsection (1), if within 24 hours after the production of his or her driving licence was so required, the licensee produces the licence in person at any police office or police station in Singapore that may be specified by the police officer at the time its production was required, the licensee shall not be convicted of an offence under this section.

(3)

Subsection (2) does not apply to a paid driver or to the driver of a motor vehicle used for the carriage of passengers for hire or reward or for the carriage of goods.
