Elected members
(1)
Subject to the provisions of this Act or in any rules made under this Act, every elected member of the Council under section 9(1)(c) and (d) holds office for a term of two years, commencing from the date of his election, but may continue in office until the election of his successor in office.
(2)
With respect to the members of the Council to be first elected after 18th September 1970 the following provisions apply:
four of the members elected under section 9(1)(c) shall hold office for a term of one year, commencing from the date of their election;
four of the members elected under section 9(1)(d) shall hold office for a term of one year, commencing from the date of their election; and
the members so to retire under this subsection shall be determined by the election.
(3)
Retiring members of the Council are eligible for re-election if they are not otherwise disqualified from holding office in the Council.
