Section 6

Duty of owner and occupier to keep clean private streets, etc., abutting on their premises

(1)

The owner and the occupier of any premises abutting upon any private street to which they have access or the right of access from their premises must cause any portion of the street that fronts, adjoins or abuts on their premises and up to the centre thereof including the footways to be properly swept and cleansed and watered so far as is reasonably practicable, and refuse and filth of every sort found thereon to be collected and removed.

(2)

The owner and the occupier of any premises must cause the immediate vicinity of their premises, including the footways and backyards abutting thereon, and the airwells, courtyards and quadrangles thereof to be kept clean and free of refuse, filth or other matter or any accumulation of water.

(3)

The Director-General may, by written notice, require any person upon whom any duty is cast under subsection (1) or (2) to sweep and cleanse and water such street and to collect and remove the refuse, filth and other matter found thereon at such time or times as are stated in the notice.
