Official searches
(1)
Subject to this Act and the rules, any person may at any time require an official search to be made on the person’s behalf at the Registry by delivering to the Registrar a requisition in writing signed by the person.
(2)
The requisition mentioned in subsection (1) must specify the Government survey lot number and mukim number or town subdivision number and either —
the specified instruments which have been registered or provisionally registered under this Act or any repealed enactment; or
the period of the official search required commencing with a specified instrument, provided that the period does not exceed the statutory period of limitation for title to be deduced under the Conveyancing and Law of Property Act 1886.
(3)
Upon receipt of any requisition mentioned in subsection (1), the Registrar must —
cause a diligent search to be made;
give a certificate of the result of that search to the person requiring it to be made; and
sign the certificate and seal it with his or her seal, and every certificate so signed and sealed is receivable in evidence.
