Composition of offences
(1)
A Town Council may compound any offence under any by‑law made by it for a purpose mentioned in section 28(1) and which is prescribed in those by‑laws as a compoundable offence by collecting from the person reasonably suspected of having committed the offence a sum not exceeding $2,000.
(2)
A public officer authorised by the Minister may compound any offence under this Act or rules made under this Act that is prescribed under section 82 as a compoundable offence, by collecting from a Town Council or other person reasonably suspected of having committed the offence a sum not exceeding the lower of the following amounts:
one half of the amount of the maximum fine that is prescribed for the offence;
$2,000.
(3)
On payment by a person to a Town Council or public officer (as the case may be) of a sum of money under subsection (1) or (2), no further proceedings are to be taken against that person in respect of the offence.[49
