Section 16

Registration of accredited checkers, etc., or accredited checking organisations

(1)

An application for registration, or to renew any registration, as —

(a)

an accredited checker;

(b)

a specialist accredited checker; or

(c)

an accredited checking organisation,must be made in such manner and must be accompanied by such documents and particulars as the Commissioner of Building Control may determine.

Upon receiving an application under subsection (1), or an application to renew such registration, the Commissioner of Building Control must consider the application and may —

(a)

register or renew the registration of (as the case may be) the applicant as an accredited checker, a specialist accredited checker or an accredited checking organisation, with or without conditions; or

(b)

refuse the registration or renewal.

Where the Commissioner of Building Control has registered a person, or renewed the person’s registration, as an accredited checker, a specialist accredited checker or an accredited checking organisation, he or she must issue to that person a certificate of such accreditation.

Every registration as an accredited checker, a specialist accredited checker or an accredited checking organisation is, unless earlier cancelled under section 17, valid for the period specified therein (being not longer than 12 months), and upon its expiry, that registration may be renewed for the period specified (being also not longer than 12 months).

(5)

The Commissioner of Building Control may appoint a committee of persons to assist him or her in considering applications for registration, or renewal of registration, as an accredited checker, a specialist accredited checker or an accredited checking organisation.
