Power to order child or young person to be produced for assessment or treatment, etc.
(1)
Where the Director‑General, a protector or a police officer is satisfied on reasonable grounds that a child or young person is in need of care or protection, the Director‑General, protector or police officer may by written notice order any person to —
produce the child or young person before the Director‑General, protector or police officer at a specified time and place; or
produce the child or young person before a registered medical practitioner, a psychologist or an approved welfare officer for an assessment or for any medical or other treatment as may be necessary,following which the Director‑General, protector or police officer may, if he or she thinks necessary, remove the child or young person and commit the child or young person to a place of temporary care and protection or to the care of a fit person until the child or young person can be brought before a Youth Court to be dealt with under section 54.
(2)
For the purposes of this section and sections 11 and 12, a reference to a police officer is a reference to a police officer not below the rank of sergeant.[8A
