Conditions for registration of ships
(1)
The Authority may, with the approval of the Minister, make regulations prescribing the conditions for the registration of a ship as a Singapore ship.
(2)
Without limiting subsection (1), regulations made under this section may make provision —
describing the persons qualified to own Singapore ships or any share therein (called in this Part persons qualified to own Singapore ships);
requiring a corporation having a share capital to have a minimum amount of paid-up capital;
limiting the age and tonnage of a ship;
requiring a corporate owner to disclose to the Registrar such particulars and in such manner as may be specified before making an application to register a ship; and
empowering the Registrar to close the registry of a Singapore ship and cancel its certificate of registry for any contravention of the regulations.
(3)
The Registrar may refuse to register any ship as a Singapore ship without assigning any reason.
