Section 31B
Licence required for importing essential construction materials
(1)
Subject to the provisions of this Part, no person shall carry on any business of importing any essential construction material unless the person is authorised to do so under a valid licence.
(2)
Any person who contravenes subsection (1) shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $500,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years or to both and, in the case of a continuing offence, to a fine not exceeding $10,000 for every day or part thereof during which the offence continues after conviction.
(3)
Nothing in this section shall apply to prevent a corporation or limited liability partnership that ceases to have in force a licence from carrying on any activity necessary to the winding up of the corporation or limited liability partnership.
