Section 24
Power to require production of documents, etc.
(1)
For the purpose of discharging his or her functions and duties under this Act and the rules, the Director‑General or an authorised officer may at any time require any person —
to produce to the Director‑General or authorised officer for inspection or for the purpose of obtaining copies or extracts, or to provide the Director‑General or authorised officer with copies or extracts of, any book, shipping bill, bill of lading or other document or record that the Director‑General or authorised officer believes on reasonable grounds contains any information relevant to the administration or enforcement of this Act or the rules; or
to provide any information as the Director‑General or authorised officer may reasonably require.
(2)
The Director‑General or an authorised officer may record any information provided by any person under subsection (1)(b) as a statement which is admissible as evidence in any proceedings in connection with any offence under this Act or the rules.
(3)
Any person who fails to comply with any requirement made by the Director‑General or authorised officer under subsection (1)(a) or (b) shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or to both.
