Section 57

Singapore passports, etc., are property of Government

(1)

Every Singapore passport and every Singapore travel document, whether issued before, on or after 1 December 2007, is the property of the Government.

(2)

The right in a Singapore passport or a Singapore travel document conferred on the Government by subsection (1) is not defeated or affected by any sale of, or any security, pledge, deposit or encumbrance given, made or accepted in respect of, the Singapore passport or Singapore travel document, by the holder thereof or by any other person.

(3)

A person must not give, make or accept as a security, pledge, deposit or encumbrance, a Singapore passport or a Singapore travel document, and any term of an agreement which would otherwise have that effect is void.
