Section 4

Premium

(1)

The premium for each insurance period (called in this section the relevant insurance period) of such amount as may be prescribed in the relevant regulations is to be paid —

(a)

not later than 30 days after the beginning of the relevant insurance period, or on or before such later date as the Board may permit;

(b)

in such manner as the Board may permit; and

(c)

by all or any of the following persons, and in such proportion, as the Board may require:

(i)

the insured person;

(ii)

a parent or both parents of the insured person, subject to any provision in the relevant regulations, if the insured person has not attained 21 years of age at the beginning of the relevant insurance period.

(2)

Despite anything in the CPF Act, the Board is entitled to deduct, from the amount standing to a person’s credit in that person’s medisave account, the whole or any part of the premium for the relevant insurance period (including any interest or penalty imposed under section 11(1)(a) or 17, as the case may be, in respect of that premium) —

(a)

payable by that person under subsection (1)(c)(i) or (ii); or

(b)

payable by any other person, in the circumstances prescribed in the relevant regulations.

(3)

In subsection (1), “parent”, in relation to an insured person who has not attained 21 years of age, includes —

(a)

an adoptive parent of the insured person;

(b)

a step-parent of the insured person; or

(c)

a guardian, or any person who has the actual custody, of the insured person.
