This Act may be cited as the Arms Offences (Amendment) Act 1984.
Amendment of section 3
Section 3 of the Arms Offences Act, 1973, is amended —
by deleting the words “be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term which may extend to ten years” in subsection (1) and substituting the words “on conviction be punished with imprisonment for a term of not less than 5 years and not more than 10 years”;
by deleting the words “be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term which may extend to fourteen years” in subsection (2) and substituting the words “on conviction be punished with imprisonment for a term of not less than 5 years and not more than 14 years”; and
by deleting the words “be liable to imprisonment for life and shall in any event be punished with caning with not less than six strokes” in subsection (4) and substituting the words “on conviction be punished with imprisonment for a term of not less than 5 years and not more than 20 years and shall also be punished with caning with not less than 6 strokes”.
