Clause 16

Production of driving licences

Any person driving a motor vehicle on a road shall, on being so required by a police officer, produce his driving licence for examination so as to enable the police officer to ascertain the name and address of the holder of the licence, the date of issue and the authority by which it was issued, and if he fails so to do he shall be guilty of an offence under this Ordinance:Provided that if within five days after the production of his driving licence was so required, the licensee produces the licence in person at such police office or police station in Singapore or in the Federation of Malaya as may be specified by such licence holder at the time its production was required he shall not be convicted of an offence under this section:And provided further that the foregoing proviso shall not apply to a paid driver or to the driver of a motor vehicle used for the carriage of passengers for hire or reward or for the carriage of goods.
