Clause 63

of Local Government Integration Ordinance

Clause 63

Power to shut up and secure deserted buildings

(1)

If any building or land, by reason of abandonment or disputed ownership or other cause, remains untenanted and thereby becomes liable to be a resort of idle and disorderly persons or otherwise becomes a public nuisance and is complained of by any two or more of the neighbours or by a police officer not below the rank of Superintendent or by the Health Officer, the Chief Building Surveyor after due inquiry may cause notice in writing to be given to the owner or the person claiming to be the owner, if he is known and resident in Singapore, or, if he is not known or so resident, may cause such notice to be put on the door of the building or some conspicuous part of the premises, requiring the persons concerned therein, wherever they may be, to secure and enclose the same or to abate the nuisance.

(2)

If such notice is not complied with within seven days, such building or land shall be deemed to be a nuisance liable to be dealt with summarily under this Ordinance.
