Clause 53

Powers of arrest

(1)

Any veterinary authority, officer of customs or police officer may arrest without warrant any person whom he sees or finds committing or attempting to commit or whom he reasonably suspects of being engaged in committing or attempting to commit any offence against this Ordinance, if such person refuses to furnish his name and address or furnishes an address out of Singapore or there are reasonable grounds for believing that he has furnished a false name or address or that he is likely to abscond.

(2)

Any veterinary authority, officer of customs or police officer making an arrest without warrant shall, subject to the provisions of subsection (3) of this section, without unnecessary delay bring the person arrested before a Magistrate’s Court.

(3)

No person who has been arrested by a veterinary authority, officer of customs or police officer shall be released, except on his own bond or on bail or on the special order in writing of the Magistrate or the Director.
