Clause 16

Amendment of section 39

Section 39 of the Ordinance is hereby amended —

(a)

by inserting immediately after the word “solemnizes” appearing in the second line of subsection (1) thereof the words “or purports to solemnize or officiates at”; and

(b)

by inserting immediately after subsection (2) thereof the following new subsection: —“(3) Any person who marries or purports to marry or goes through a form of marriage with any person contrary to any of the provisions of Part III of this Ordinance shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years and shall also be liable to a fine not exceeding five thousand dollars.”.
