Repeal and re-enactment of section 166
Section 166 of the Ordinance is hereby repealed and the following substituted therefor: —“Marriages solemnized prior to coming into operation of this Ordinance deemed to be registered under this Ordinance166.—
Nothing in this Ordinance shall affect the validity of any marriage solemnized under any law, religion, custom or usage prior to the date of the coming into operation of this Ordinance.(2) Such marriages if valid under the law, religion, custom or usage under which they were solemnized shall be deemed to be registered under the provisions of this Ordinance.(3) Every such marriage, unless void under the law, religion, custom or usage under which it was solemnized, shall continue until dissolved —
by the death of one of the parties;
by order of a court of competent jurisdiction; or
by a declaration made by a court of competent jurisdiction that the marriage is null and void.”.
