New section 85A
The principal Act is hereby amended by inserting immediately after section 85 thereof the following new section: —“Mode of enlistment of national servicemen85A.—
Notwithstanding the provisions of section 85 of this Act, every person upon whom an enlistment notice has been served in accordance with section 11 of the National Service Ordinance, 1952 (M. Ord. 37 of 1952), and who is required by such notice to enlist in the Singapore armed forces shall, as from the day specified in such notice, be deemed to have been duly enlisted for service with the Singapore armed forces.(2) Every such person shall take an oath or affirmation in such form as may be prescribed by the Army Board in the presence of an officer.(3) Any person who refuses to take the oath or affirmation specified in subsection (2) of this section shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding one thousand dollars or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to both such fine and imprisonment.”.
