Repeal and re-enactment of section 18

Section 18 of the Road Traffic Act (hereinafter in this Act referred to as “the principal Act”) is hereby repealed and the following substituted therefor: —“Production of driving licences18.—

(1)

Any person driving a motor vehicle on a road shall, on being so required by a police officer, produce his driving licence for examination so as to enable the police officer to ascertain the name and address of the holder of the licence, the date of issue and the authority by which it was issued, and if he fails to do so he shall be guilty of an offence under this Act.(2) Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection (1) of this section, if within twenty-four hours after the production of his driving licence was so required, the licensee produces the licence in person at such police office or police station in Singapore as may be specified by such police officer at the time its production was required he shall not be convicted of an offence under this section.(3) The provisions of subsection (2) of this section shall not apply to a paid driver or to the driver of a motor vehicle used for the carriage of passengers for hire or reward or for the carriage of goods.”.
