Clause 31

Compensation order

(1)

The court before which a person is convicted of an offence under this Act may, on application or otherwise, make an order requiring him to pay such compensation, not exceeding one thousand dollars as the court thinks just, for any loss or damage resulting from that offence to any person who has suffered such loss or damage; and the provisions of section 389 of the Criminal Procedure Code shall be applicable to any order made under this section.

(2)

A compensation order made under this section shall not prejudice any right to a civil action for the recovery of damages beyond the amount of compensation paid under the order.
