Clause 18

Repeal

(1)

The University of Singapore Act (Cap. 181) and the Nanyang University Act (Cap. 178) are repealed.

(2)

Notwithstanding such repeal, the University of Singapore and the Nanyang University and the Senates and Boards of Examiners of those Universities will continue to exist, and the officers of those Universities will continue to hold office, for the purpose of granting or conferring degrees and diplomas —

(a)

to students of the academic year 1979-1980 who have passed the examinations conducted by those Universities for the award of degrees and diplomas; and

(b)

to higher degree students who have passed their examinations provided their theses or dissertations were submitted on or before 30th June, 1980.

For the purpose of paragraph (a) of subsection (2), the University of Singapore and the Nanyang University may, within six months after the commencement of this Act, continue to conduct supplementary examinations to be taken by students of the academic year 1979-1980 which will qualify them for the award of degrees and diplomas of those Universities.

(4)

The provisions of the Fourth Schedule to this Act shall have effect in relation to all persons whose names are on the register of the Guild of Graduates of the University of Singapore and all persons whose names are on the register of the Guild of Graduates of the Nanyang University and to the register of subscribers of the Nanyang University.
