Clause 28

Obligation of the Corporation to purchase land

The owner of any land who has been served with a notice under section 27 may, if he so desires, require the Corporation to purchase his estate right, share or interest in the portion of the land affected by the proposed laying and construction of the railway or the whole of his land and the Corporation shall thereupon request the President of Singapore to direct the acquisition of that land and in that case that property may be acquired in accordance with the provisions of any written law relating to the acquisition of land for a public purpose and any declaration required under any such law that the land is so needed may be made notwithstanding that compensation is to be paid out of the funds of the Corporation, and the declaration shall have effect as if it were a declaration that the land is needed for a public purpose made in accordance with that written law.
