New section 62A

The principal Act is amended by inserting, immediately after section 62, the following section:“Restriction on driving certain categories of heavy motor vehicles62A.—

(1)

Subject to subsection (2), a person who has attained the age of 70 years shall not drive a vehicle belonging to the following categories or classes of motor vehicles:

(a)

heavy locomotives;

(b)

light locomotives;

(c)

motor tractors; and

(d)

heavy motor cars.(2) Notwithstanding subsection (1), a person who has a valid driving licence in force at the date of the commencement of the Road Traffic (Amendment) Act 1990 authorising him to drive any of the category or class of vehicles referred to in subsection (1) may continue to drive a vehicle belonging to the said category or class of vehicles for a period of 3 years from that date if his licence has not expired or is renewed during that period.(3) Notwithstanding subsection (1), the Deputy Commissioner of Police may renew the driving licence of any person who has attained the age of 70 years for a period not exceeding 3 years from the date of the commencement of the Road Traffic (Amendment) Act 1990.”.
