Amendment of Article 22N
Article 22N of the Constitution is amended —
by deleting the words “prior to the expiration of the term of office of the incumbent” in the first and second lines of clause (1);
by deleting the words “a newly elected President” in the last line of clause (1) and substituting the words “the person declared elected as President”;
by deleting the words “Oath of Office of the President and” in the first and second lines of clause (4); and
by inserting, immediately after clause (4), the following clause:“(5) Any person required or appointed to exercise the functions of the office of President pursuant to this Article or Article 22O shall, before exercising those functions, take and subscribe in the presence of the Chief Justice or another Judge of the Supreme Court the Oath of Office in the form set out in the First Schedule, except that neither the Chairman of the Council of Presidential Advisers nor the Speaker shall, during his term of office as such Chairman or as Speaker, be required to take such oath more than once in respect of occasions when he is required to exercise the functions of the office of President.”.
