Clause 95

Penalty for receiving remuneration from seamen for engagement

(1)

A person shall not demand or receive, directly or indirectly, from a seaman, or from a person seeking employment as a seaman, or from a person on his behalf, any remuneration whatever for providing him with employment.

(2)

Any person who contravenes subsection (1) shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction for each offence to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or to both.
