Clause 17

Direction by Authority

(1)

The Authority may give directions for or with respect to codes of practice and other standards of performance and procedures to be observed by electricity licensees and other persons —

(a)

to ensure the reliability of the supply of electricity to the public;

(b)

to ensure the security of the electricity system;

(c)

to maintain the voltage or reactive flow of power through the transmission system;

(d)

in the interests of public safety; or

(e)

as may be necessary to allow the Authority to carry out its functions and duties under section 3.

(2)

In giving any direction under subsection (1), the Authority shall have regard to the market rules, the effect and purpose of the market rules and the implication of the direction on the market rules.

(3)

Any person who fails to comply with any direction given under subsection (1) shall be guilty of an offence.
