Clause 17

Whenever any article or document is seized and removed under section 14, 15 or 16, the authorised officer or senior authorised officer, as the case may be, shall give notice in writing of the seizure and removal and the grounds thereof to the owner of the article or document, if known, either by delivering the notice to him personally or by post at his business or residential address, if known.

The notice need not be given if the seizure is made on the person or in the presence of the offender or the owner or his agent.
