Clause 18

Amendment of section 44

Section 44 of the Gas Act is amended by inserting, immediately after subsection (1), the following subsections:“(2) In default of the consumer doing so —

(a)

the gas transporter may disconnect or refuse to connect his premises; or

(b)

the relevant gas shipper or relevant gas retailer may authorise the supply of gas to his premises to be discontinued and any gas shipper or gas retailer may refuse to supply gas to his premises.(3) Any meter —

(a)

owned by, or under the management or control of, a gas transporter or owned by a relevant gas shipper; and

(b)

lent or hired to a consumer by the gas transporter or relevant gas shipper, as the case may be,shall, at all times and without charge to that consumer, be kept by the gas transporter or relevant gas shipper, as the case may be, in proper order for correctly registering the quantity of gas supplied to that consumer.”.
