Clause 104

Amendment of section 511

Section 511 of the Penal Code is amended —

(a)

by deleting the word “Whoever” in the 1st line and substituting the words “Subject to subsection (2), whoever”;

(b)

by deleting the colon at the end of the 9th line and substituting a full-stop;

(c)

by deleting the proviso; and

(d)

by renumbering the section as subsection (1) of that section, and by inserting immediately thereafter the following subsection:“(2) The longest term of imprisonment that may be imposed under subsection (1) shall not exceed —

(a)

15 years where such attempt is in relation to an offence punishable with imprisonment for life; or

(b)

one-half of the longest term provided for the offence in any other case.”.
