Clause 27

Security screening at special event area

(1)

This section shall apply if the security system for a special event area involves the use of screening devices, such as (but not limited to) the following:

(a)

a walk-through detector;

(b)

an X-ray machine;

(c)

a hand-held scanner.

(2)

A police officer or an approved person may ask an entrant to a special event area to undergo any form of security screening, including doing one or more of the following:

(a)

to walk through a walk-through detector;

(b)

to pass the entrant’s personal property through an X-ray machine;

(c)

to allow the police officer or approved person to pass a hand-held scanner in close proximity to the entrant;

(d)

to allow the police officer or approved person to pass a hand-held scanner in close proximity to the entrant’s personal property.

(3)

Any person who fails to comply with the request of a police officer or an approved person under subsection (2) shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or to both.
