Clause 51

Renewal of registration

(1)

Any person may apply for a renewal of the registration of a geographical indication in the prescribed manner and by paying the prescribed fee.

(2)

The Minister may make rules for the Registrar to inform the registrant of a registered geographical indication, before the expiry of the registration, of the date of expiry and the manner in which the registration may be renewed.

(3)

An application for renewal shall be filed not later than 6 months after the date of expiry of the registration.

(4)

A renewal of the registration of a geographical indication shall take effect from the expiry of the previous registration.

(5)

If the registration is not renewed in accordance with this section and the rules referred to in subsection (2), the Registrar shall remove the geographical indication from the register.
