New section 25AA
The principal Act is amended by inserting, immediately after section 25A, the following section:“Power of Registrar to refuse or suspend practising certificate for non-payment of certain sums25AA.—
This section shall apply to a solicitor who makes an application for a practising certificate, if he fails to pay any of the following when the payment is due:
the whole or any part of the subscriptions, levies and contributions referred to in his declaration under section 25(1)(b)(i) accompanying the application;
the whole or any part of any penalty referred to in his declaration under section 25(1)(b)(iii) accompanying the application;
the whole or any part of any sum referred to in his declaration under section 25(1)(b)(iv) accompanying the application;
the whole or any part of the moneys, contributions and subscriptions referred to in his declaration under section 25(1)(c) accompanying the application;
the fee referred to in section 25(1)(e) accompanying the application.(2) Where the Registrar becomes aware of the solicitor’s failure to make the payment referred to in subsection (1), the Registrar shall —
refuse the solicitor’s application for a practising certificate, until the payment is made; or
if a practising certificate has been issued to the solicitor pursuant to the application, order that the practising certificate be suspended.(3) The Registrar shall revoke his order under subsection (2)(b) when the solicitor makes the payment referred to in subsection (1).”.
