Amendment of section 48
Section 48 of the principal Act is amended —
(a)
by deleting subsection (1) and substituting the following subsection:“(1) The chief executive, or an employee of the Agency authorised in writing by the Agency, may compound any offence under this Act that is prescribed under subsection (3) as a compoundable offence by collecting from a person reasonably suspected of having committed the offence a sum not exceeding the lower of the following:
(a)
one half of the amount of the maximum fine that is prescribed for the offence;
(b)
$2,000.”; and
(b)
by inserting, immediately after subsection (2), the following subsection:“(2A) All sums collected under this section are to be paid into the Consolidated Fund.”.
