Clause 16

Amendment of Article 22L

Article 22L of the Constitution is amended —

(a)

by inserting, immediately after paragraph (a) of clause (1), the following paragraph:“(aa)if the President ceases to be a citizen of Singapore;”;

(b)

by deleting the words “the elected Members of Parliament referred to in Article 39(1)(a)” in clauses (3), (4) and (7) and substituting in each case the words “Members of Parliament (excluding nominated Members)”;

(c)

by deleting the word “or” at the end of clause (3)(c); and

(d)

by deleting the comma at the end of paragraph (d) of clause (3) and substituting the word “; or”, and by inserting immediately thereafter the following paragraph:“(e)intentionally or knowingly making a materially false or misleading statement of fact, or intentionally or knowingly failing to state a material fact, to the Presidential Elections Committee for the purpose of demonstrating his eligibility to be elected as President,”.
