New sections 17A and 17B

The principal Act is amended by inserting, immediately after section 17, the following sections:“Composition of offences17A.—

(1)

The Commissioner or a registration officer may compound any offence under this Act that is prescribed as a compoundable offence by collecting from a person reasonably suspected of having committed the offence a sum not exceeding $500.(2) On payment of such sum of money, no further proceedings are to be taken against that person in respect of the offence.Police officers’ functions and powers under Criminal Procedure Code17B. To avoid doubt, nothing in this Act affects a police officer’s functions or powers under the Criminal Procedure Code (Cap. 68) or any other written law.”.
