New section 26E
The principal Act is amended by inserting, immediately after section 26D, the following section:“Forced entry in non‑suicide cases26E.—
If a police officer —
reasonably suspects that a person in any place requires assistance because of any injury or the person’s poor state of health;
is unable to gain entry or access into the place; and
is of the view that entry or access into the place is necessary to protect the life, health or safety of the person,it is lawful for the police officer to break open any outer or inner door or window of the place or to use any other reasonable means in order to gain entry or access into the place.(2) However, no power conferred under this section may be exercised in relation to a person whom the police officer reasonably suspects is about to attempt or has attempted to commit suicide.”.
