Clause 40
Purposes for which enforcement powers are exercisable
(1)
An inspecting officer may exercise the powers set out in this Part for all or any of the following purposes:
to detect and investigate any offence under this Act;
to determine whether there is any ground for taking any regulatory action under Part 7;
to determine whether information given to the inspecting officer under any provision of this Act is correct.
(2)
A compliance officer may exercise the powers set out in this Part where specified, but subject to section 52(2) and (7) and to the limits in the written authorisation issued under section 52 in respect of the compliance officer; and any reference in this Act to a compliance officer is a reference to a compliance officer who is so authorised.
