Clause 2

Civil List of the President

There shall be paid for the Civil List of the President so long as he shall hold office the yearly sums specified in the Schedule to this Act.

Payments in respect of the amounts for the Privy Purse and Entertainment Allowance specified in Class I of the Schedule to this Act shall be made to the President.

Short title and commencement

This Act may be cited as the Civil List and Pension Act, 1970, and shall come into operation on such date as the Minister may, by notification in the Gazette, appoint.(2) The Minister may appoint different dates for the coming into operation of the different Parts or provisions of this Act.

Clause 8

Pension for former Presidents

Subject to the provisions of this Act, any person who ceases to be President (hereinafter in this Act referred to as “former President”) shall be granted a pension of such amount and on such terms as Parliament may by resolution determine.

Pensions under this Act may be paid monthly at the end of each month in which the pension falls due.

Where, after the date of the coming into operation of this Act, a President or a former President dies there may be paid to his dependants or, if there are no dependants, to his legal personal representative, a gratuity of such amount as Parliament may by resolution determine.

Pension or gratuity not to be assignable

A pension or gratuity granted under this Act shall not be assignable or transferable, except for the purpose of satisfying —

(a)

a debt due to the Government; or

(b)

an order of any Court for the payment of periodical sums of money towards the maintenance of the wife, or former wife or minor child of the former President to whom the pension has been granted,and shall not be liable to be attached, sequestered or levied upon for or in respect of any debt or claim whatever except a debt due to the Government.

Pensions and gratuities to be paid out of Consolidated Fund

There shall be charged on and paid out of the Consolidated Fund all such sums of money as may, from time to time, be granted by way of pension or gratuity in accordance with this Act.
