Short title and commencement
This Act may be cited as the People’s Association (Amendment) Act 1996 and shall come into operation on such date as the Minister may, by notification in the Gazette, appoint.

Short title and commencement
This Act may be cited as the People’s Association (Amendment) Act 1996 and shall come into operation on such date as the Minister may, by notification in the Gazette, appoint.
Amendment of section 9
Section 9(1) of the People’s Association Act is amended —
by deleting the word “and” at the end of paragraph (b); and
by deleting paragraph (c) and substituting the following paragraphs:“(c)the fostering of community bonding and strengthening of social cohesion amongst the people of Singapore;
the performance of such other functions as may be conferred upon the Association by any written law; and
the carrying out of such activities as appear to the Board to be advantageous towards, or necessary or convenient for, the furtherance of the objects of the Association as set out in paragraphs (a) to (d).”.
New section 9A
The People’s Association Act is amended by inserting, immediately after section 9, the following section:“Protection from personal liability9A. No suit or other legal proceedings shall lie against —
any member, officer or employee of the Association or any other person acting under the direction of the Association;
any member of the Board or any person acting under the direction of the Board; or
any member or officer of any committee appointed by the Board or any person acting under the direction of such committee,for anything which is in good faith done or intended to be done in the execution or purported execution of this Act.”.
