Short title and commencement
This Act may be cited as the Presidential Elections (Amendment) Act 1999 and shall come into operation on such date as the Minister may, by notification in the Gazette, appoint.

New section 8A
The Presidential Elections Act is amended by inserting, immediately after section 8, the following section:“Immunity of Presidential Elections Committee8A.—
The Presidential Elections Committee shall not, in the absence of malice on its part, be liable to any action at the suit of any person in respect of —
any statement which the Committee makes in the discharge of any of its functions under this Act, whether the statement is made orally or in writing; or
the publication of any document prepared by the Committee in the course of performing its functions under this Act.(2) Subsection (1) does not limit or affect any other right, privilege or immunity that the Presidential Elections Committee has, apart from this section, as a defendant in any action.”.
