Except as otherwise provided in sub‑paragraphs (2) and (3), the speed of all motor vehicles travelling along any road or part of a road shall not exceed —

(a)

in the case of the roads or parts thereof set out in the First to Sixth Schedules, the speed specified in those Schedules; and

(b)

in any other case, 50 kilometres per hour.

The speed of all motor vehicles travelling along any road or part of a road in a school zone must not exceed the speed of 40 kilometres per hour if the traffic sign set out in diagram 12A in Part I of the Schedule to the Road Traffic (Traffic Signs) Rules (R 33) is used to indicate the beginning of the school zone.

The speed of all motor vehicles travelling along any road or part of a road in a silver zone must not exceed the speed of —

(a)

30 kilometres per hour if the traffic sign set out in diagram 12C(a) or 12C(b) in Part I of the Schedule to the Road Traffic (Traffic Signs) Rules is used to indicate the beginning of the silver zone; or

(b)

40 kilometres per hour if the traffic sign set out in diagram 12B(a) or 12B(b) in Part I of the Schedule to the Road Traffic (Traffic Signs) Rules is used to indicate the beginning of the silver zone.

The speed of all motor vehicles travelling along any road or part of a road in a zone demarcated as “Friendly Streets” by —

(a)

the traffic sign set out in diagram 12D(a) or 12D(b) in Part I of the Schedule to the Road Traffic (Traffic Signs) Rules at the beginning of the zone; and (b)the traffic sign set out in diagram 165A(a) or 165A(b) in Part III of the Schedule to the Road Traffic (Traffic Signs) Rules at the end of the zone, must not exceed the speed of 40 kilometres per hour.

near a school; and

(b)

This Notification shall not apply to —

(a)

any fire engine used for the purpose of extinguishing fires, of preserving life and property in case of fire or of aiding or rescuing persons in danger, or in case of an accident;

(b)

any authorised ambulance used for the purpose of attending to a medical emergency; or

(c)

any motor vehicle owned by the Government and used by the Singapore Police Force or the Singapore Civil Defence Force for the purpose of executing the functions of the Singapore Police Force or the Singapore Civil Defence Force, as the case may be,if compliance with this Notification is likely to hinder the use of the fire engine, ambulance or motor vehicle for the purpose for which it is being used.

“ambulance” means a motor vehicle that is specifically equipped for —

(a)

the transport on roads of; and (b)the provision, during such transport, of out-of-hospital clinical care to,sick or injured individuals who require emergency medical treatment;

“authorised”, for an ambulance, means —

(a)

being specified in a licence (other than a revoked licence) under the Healthcare Services Act 2020 authorising the use of the ambulance to provide a licensable healthcare service specified in that licence; or (b)being owned by the Government and used for the purposes of the Singapore Armed Forces or the Singapore Civil Defence Force.
