This Order is the Road Traffic (Power-Assisted Bicycles — Exemption) Order 2021 and comes into operation on 24 August 2021.

Regulation 2

Exemption for registered and type-approved power‑assisted bicycles

Sections 10A, 11, 11AA, 11A, 13, 19, 28, 28A and 29 of the Act do not apply in respect of a power‑assisted bicycle that —

(a)

is registered under the Road Traffic (Registration of Power‑Assisted Bicycles) Rules 2017 (G.N. No. S 451/2017); (b)complies with the requirements specified in the Schedule to the Road Traffic (Power‑Assisted Bicycles — Approval) Rules 2004 (G.N. No. S 768/2004); and

(c)

is approved and sealed in accordance with the Road Traffic (Power‑Assisted Bicycles — Approval) Rules 2004.

The respective requirements —

(a)

to register under section 10(1) of the Act; and (b)to comply with the specified requirements and be approved and sealed by an authorised examiner in accordance with the Road Traffic (Power‑Assisted Bicycles — Approval) Rules 2004,do not apply to the keeping (not including use) of a relevant non‑compliant small motorised vehicle.

The requirement for a licence in section 29(1) of the Act does not apply to the possession (not including use) of a relevant non‑compliant small motorised vehicle.

Suggest a correction

In this paragraph, a relevant non‑compliant small motorised vehicle means a non‑compliant small motorised vehicle the import of which is authorised by an import approval granted under the Small Motorised Vehicles (Safety) Act 2020 (Act 25 of 2020) for a permissible purpose as defined in regulation 8(4) of the Small Motorised Vehicles (Safety) Regulations 2021 (G.N. No. S 404/2021).
